i am about to purchase an oem remote keyless entry kit from my local ford dealer and they think there is no way i could install it myself. does anyone have any experience doing this?
it's would be easier, faster, and safer if you go to your local car alarm installer and get a alarm system there. for around $150, you can get a DEI (Viper, Python, etc...) alarm system installed. this way you'll get both keyless entry and a little protection since there are no factory anti-theft system in superduty.
it is a lot of work for some one not up on the wireing. esp. since ford dose not include the diections, or the needed relays not in the kit. have it done on the out side by a very good shop and checked out by the bbb in your area.
If you are comfortable with wiring, have patience, and are a do it yourself kind of guy, there is no reason not to do it yourself. I too would do an alarm, and with remote start also. I've done all three of my vehicles myself with no troubles. On my '01 I also added window roll up and roll down modules. Plus a starter interupt, so if they do get past the alarm, where they gonna go?
You'll get far better range in an aftermarket system with a super heterodyne antenna. The key fobs aren't quite as durable though.
What year, and what model and options do you have?

Yes,welcome 1stSuperDuty! I wasn't even paying attention that you are new here. It must have been from all that "clean living" when I was young. There is a wealth of information here, and a lot of people who know their sh#t about these trucks. If you need to know something, just ask. You'll surely get the answer.
Thanks, for all the great info. I have a 2005 F250 XLT Sport Crew Cab, it does already have power locks which the dealer said was a big help. Does anyone have the instructions or a wiring diagram so i can check out where to tie into the existing wiring?

leads to to the instruction sheets ford leaves behind. you will need the base and truck sheets then pull out the sheets for your ride and print so you have them to veiw
I installed a remote starter which included keyless entry and it was a good weekend project. If you have the extra time, and maybe a beer or two, it is doable.
