I recall reading a forum advising against painting between the rear leafs.I can't find the forum now. Can't remember the reason why they shouldn't be painted.Would it be advisable to lubricate between the leafs before I put them back together or just leave them bare metal?
Herman
I used Zero-rust on each leaf and got the teflon spring liner material from Mid-fifty. Don't have the truck back on the road yet so I can't tell you how it's all going to work out, but they do look nice!
The idea was that the paint would wear away and loosen up the stack between the shackles - which would cause extra motion and strain on the main leaf.
"As a spring flexes up and down there is wear taking place between the leaves. If the inner surfaces have been coated this coating will wear through allowing additional movement in the center bolt area. The additional movement will allow the u-bolts to loosen and soon you will experience either a sheared center bolt or a broken spring."
