I have a 03 Ranger super-cab FX4 (4.0, 4.10 gears, Limited slip, 41,000 miles) and I was wondering if I went with a set of 265/75/16 tires, would they cause anything to wear out quicker like ball joints, u-joints, gears, or even the motor? Plus how much acceleration and fuel millage would I lose? Thank you for any help.
I have the stock 245/75/16 on the truck now which is like a 30in tall tire and I want the 265/75/16 which is like a 32in. tire which I heard is about the tallest you want to go without alot of trouble on stock height. Also, I do have a couple turns on the torsion bars.
Also, how wide are the stock 5-spoke wheels and would it be better to get 235/85 16 because they are a little taller, but not as wide to help with the rubbing problem (also cheaper)?
i have 265/75/16 bfg m/t on my 98 and i only notice rub on fulll turn and complete compression and thats very minimal seems to be hittin on a stupid piece of plastic on the inner fender that sticks out and im afraid to cut it off yet as far as ball joints and such ive had my bfgs for 40k and nothing has warn out yet and the tires are even just not gettin down to about half inch tread thats with driving everything you could imagine and some places i shouldnt no unusuall wear on anything
i have a 2000 4x4 off-road. before the 3"body-lift i had 295 75 16's bfg all-terrain no bs. the driver side rubbed a little when i turned left but that was it. now i have 285 75 16's kellys. i was always mistaken by the tire diameter size but they were pretty big. gas mileage went down. the speedo did not suprisingly. depending on tread pattern also has an effect on ride and mpg. i say go as big as you want and don't listen to tire guys because they always go by the book. everbody said it could'nt be done at stock ride height and i loved showing them it could.
