While implementing the free blend door fix, my AC weekened to the point of blowing warm air. I took my 98 explorer to Tunex in Murray, Utah and they replaced the condensor and sent me on my way citing a leak as the issue. So, almost $500 later (and one day later) I am blowing warm air again!
My question is How do I figure out if the first repair was wrong and the leak in the system is elsewhere? My Explorer is back in the shop as we speak and I feara they will try to hit me up with another bill and claim that therw were more than one leak. I realize that this COULD be true, but I am looking for any suggestions to help in my negotiating position...
If it's back at the same shop and they claim another leak is the cause ask them why they didn't find it after they fixed the 1st one, they should have check the system for ALL leaks. After all how did they find the 1st one?
If it is the same shop, they shouldn't charge you to diagnose the system or charge for freon again. At the most, they could charge you for whatever part they say is the problem now. This could be relatively minor in that they messed up a connection or seal when they did the condenser.
