O.k., guys- here's a strange question: I'm a woodturner, and I'm making up a bunch of gearshift *****, and I need to know what size thread inserts to make. I know my '64 F-100 is 3/8x24 fine, and my 97 Toyota 4-Runner is M12x1.25. I'm sure there are a lot of different ones out there, but what are the most common sizes, both foreign and domestic? Thanks in advance.
Just had my 64 in my first show this weekend! Really fun.

John, do you mean a threaded insert, with machine threads inside and wood screw threads on the outside? Thanks, Dave
Dave, Yes, yes & I don't know. I would imagine that most are splined and pressed in. Ones that have a locking nut seem to stay on straight better. I would suggest looking around at some existing ones.
