I've been browsing around this forum for a little while now while I'm trying to gather up the money to buy the PSD I'm looking at. In the mean time, I've also been researching "upgrades" I plan on doing WHEN I get this thing.
I hear people talking about mods like the 10k mod, the 5.6 mod, etc. and I was wondering if perhaps someone could give me a rundown on what compnents each of these affects, difficulty, procedures, and what the end result SHOULD be if done properly.
The 10K and 5.6K mods are the same thing. It's most basic application involves no more than installing a resistor (5.6 or 10K ) across two of the leads on the ICP (injection control pressure) sensor.
Essientially it tricks the computer into adding a little more fuel at a little faster rate. There are literally dozens of variations on the theme to include throttle activated switches, variable resistors etc. etc.
It's an easy and relatively safe mod that's worth 20-40 horsepower on an otherwise stock rig.
lots of mods to do... before you start... get gauges...! then... upgrade the air intake and exhaust... otherwise when you add a chip or programer to dump more fuel and make more power, your egts will get too high to quick and that is bad for your new truck, (when you get it..!)
oh trust me, I've been shopping around lately for gauges, exhaust, intake, programmers, you know, all the fun stuff that I really don't need. From what a gather, this truck is a stock truck with nothing done to it, so it's a good basis for my first diesel build-up. I'm thinking that, after I'm done, the interior is going to look more like a cockpit than a driver's seat.

heh...! there are guys in here who compete to see who has more gauges... i don't know what the current record is... but i'm not even in the running with the standard 3 in the A-pillar that i have...! but i have 3 more in the works..!
a partial list of what these guys are running for gauges includes: pre-turbo pyro, post-turbo pyro, tranny temp pre and post cooler, water temp, oil pressure, turbo boost, fuel pressure, voltmeter, front diff. temp, rear diff temp, transfer case temp, and i'm sure a missed a few...! now having all those gauges would make your interior look like a cockpit...!
I'm prolly only going to have 4-6 gauges, BUT I plan on having at least 12 switches between the dash and the seat, within easy reach. Not to mention my mobile radio, a regular CB, Arrow Stick controller, all that kinda fun stuff. Being a volunteer firefighter entitles you to have a lot more toys on your truck!!
