trailer wiring harness

I'm going to need to wire my truck for trailering. I getting close to finishing my resto on my car. I'll need to drag it around locally to different paint shops for estimates. I looked on e bay and saw the Hoppy #40115 sytem. Is this sytem any good. I'll only be towing for a short time. This trailer is only a year or so old. Is the wiring on my 86 compatable?

Thanks
Mark C.

I am assuming what you are looking at is a t connector to splice into the wiring. These work well, just make sure they are for your year truck.

But these only get the lights working, and the one I saw only gave you a 4 wire flat connector. If you are going to haul a car around, you need a tandem axle trailer with brakes and a 2" ball hitch. A car trailer is too much for a bumper hitch, and hauling a car around without brakes on the trailer can get a little scary.

Thanks, Yeah it's a tandem axel trailer, and I only have a bumper hitch. I did think of trailer brakes though. Man this could be more than I want to spend. Especially for short term, one time deal. Back to square one.

What kind of car is it? If it's rear wheel drive, you can leave the driveshaft out(stick an old yoke up in the tranny to keep the oil from leaking out) and flat tow it on 4 wheels with your bumper hitch. Depending on what type of car it is, you probably do not have the front bumper on it to get it painted, so it would be easy to weld up a simple hitch to bolt to the front of the frame, or you can get a cheapie from JCWhitney.

With all the cars I have flat towed, the only thing I have ever done was stuck a battery in them, and pull on the hazards when I was towing it. I have encountered several police cars during these adventures, and none of them even gave me a second glance. So that would cure your lighting problem too.

It's great to have good friends. I was talking about this issue with a friend after I posted here. He said, use my truck...It's a Dodge(sorry), that he towes his 6000lb boat around with. He said it doesn't even breath heavy doing it. Also said with the price of gas, he's picking up a used Honda. So the truck will be sitting, I can keep it for week or two when I'm ready. But this info is great knowledge for later down the road. I'm new to trailer hitches and associated hardware. I did however run a wrecker for a couple years though.
