I have removed the gauge cluster for odometer repairs and am now having problems with my 96 Explorer. I was told that the truck needs the gauge cluster so the alternater can properly charge the battery. Is this true?
There is the one wire I see in the Ranger Haynes manual for the charging circuit system that leads form the alternator to the "charge light" in the cluster....but I don't quite see how that would make things run crummy by itself. Maybe the cluster was designed as a relay of some sort, but I am not seeing it in that diagram....
