I have a tonneau cover from Access on my '78 long bed, which is a roll-up style. It is held down by hook and loop fasteners which have been surprisingly sturdy. It is not completely waterproof, but does keep a majoroty of water out. A monthly treatment with armor-all or other plastic/rubber treatment keeps the cover looking new.
I've had several Extang soft covers and recomend them. I like the ones that have snaps that connect to a rail that clamps on the bed. Black color last the best.
I have 4 Extang covers right now and love them. The last two I bought are "full tilt" covers, these allow you to tilt the cover up to access the bed with out removing all the snaps, it also is very easy to remove the cover completely from the frame on the truck bed so you can have a "full" open bed in seconds. If you use your bed for hauling or transporting things much you will love this option. These covers are a bit expensive but, with propper care they have lasted a long time (10 years on the first one and still in good condition!) for me. BTW, the fit is perfect on my trucks (two 77 F-150 short boxes, one 2004 F-250 short box, and one 97 Ranger splash). -Ed
I have found that both the Extang and Sport Masters brand tonneau covers fit good. Both brands have a rail system in which the rails clamp to the top of the truck bed and the tonneau cover snaps on to the rails. The good thing about that is that it doesn't involve any drilling to install. Another option would be to go to an automotive trim shop and have a tonneau cover custom made for your truck. Those type of covers snap directly to the upper sides of the truck bed. They look very nice, but if you ever want to remove it from the truck you'll still have all of the fasteners for the snaps on the sides of your trucks' bed.
