After releasing the fuel line pressure, and replacing the fuel filter, is there any special procedure to follow before I start the engine for the first time after the change? Or do I just start the engine as normal?
I did nothing but crank it over. It might take a few turns to fire up, the air in the line will take a few seconds to purge out.
I released the pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse while it was idling. After the engine dies, there's no pressure left
However, that would log a code in the computer (not enough to light the SES though), and invalidate some diagnostics. It would take a few drive cycles to get back to normal, but you should never notice the difference.
Yeah, I just crank it til it starts. But, if you want to "prime" it, you could turn the ignition key on and off a few times, but not crank. This starts the pump for a few seconds each time you do this, at least this is the way it works on all my pre 96 vehicles.
it has a feedback fuel system, the excess fuel pressure is bled back to the tank, any air will self purge to the tank. another way to bleed pressure from the fuel system is to pull pump fuse and try to start.
