Just purchased a 2002 f-350 4x4, with a 5.4 Triton v-8. I am an old ford fan, but know nothing about this engine. I purchased this truck based on price and looks, and towing capacity (7300 lbs?) I plan on towing a boat that will push this capacity a bit. After buying a new set of Bridgestone dueler A/T revos, the truck rides great and gets 15 mpg. I don,t have any idea what it will do while towing as yet. Also, I don't know anything about this engine. Can anyone fill me in. Good, Bad, or ugly would be appreciated. Is this a 2 valve per cylinder engine? Is it prone to blowing plugs? Will a dual exaust system and cold air intake help milage and performance? A general critique from you folks will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any information.
you wil probably get baraged with replies that it under powered, and that it won't tow like a V-10 or PSD. (duh) It should work just fine unless you wish to climb hills at 70 mph. It was the early V-10 that had the plug problem. As with any emission choked engine helping it breath better will help performance.
