I have a 1991 e-150 van and heres my problem...The tranny was not shifting correctly and it would shift hard too. It felt like the thing was slipping when it was in 2nd gear. I picked up another tranny out of a 1992 e-250 and installed it in my 91. Now I have no speedometer and my "rear antilock" light is on and stays on. I replaced the part that goes on the tranny that has the 2 wires pluged into it and nothing changed. I replaced the "Throttle Position Sensor" and nothing changed. Do I change the speedometer cable itself ? and if I do what will interchange with it? the "92" was digital and did"nt have one. My speedometer worked with the original tranny and the "rear antilock" light was never on either.
The part you changed on the 1992 Transmission was the Output Shaft Sensor (OSS) as in 1992 -1996 they used the rear ends RABS Sensor to for RABS and input to the POSM (VSS sensor). Then the POSM fed the PCM and the speed control module. The PCM took this information and used it for the shifts.
You do not say what model Transmissions you are working with and that information would be a big help.
There may be a plate on the extension housing of the Transmission with one bolt in it I think. You might be able to take this plate off and put the part that was on your old Transmissions extension housing in the hole. It would have two wires along with the Speedometer cable.
If you did not mess with the rear end and the wires near the center (the RABS sensor) I do not know why your light would be on. You could try pulling it out and if it has metal shaving on it clean it up and put it back in and see if that helps.
The part I changed was the part that the speedometer cable goes in and then that part bolts on to tranny with 1 bolt and has 2 wires that plug into it. My 92 tranny had the plate on it until I put that part on it so I could have a speedometer. The trannys are E4OD
