Question rear end recommendation?

what would be a good rear end ratio matched up with a toploader four speed tranny and 351 cleveland? (1:1 final just in case you didnt know) i want to be able to drive it on the freeway without turning 4 grand, but i still want the thing to launch something fierce. any recommendations are appreciated, and if you can, give me the reasons why you think the ratio you like is best. thanks guys

steve

This is for your '67 Mustang, right?

You get one or the other. If you want to launch "something fierce", you are looking at 3.91's and up.

2.79, 3.00, 3.25 work better on those long trips, but even a 3.0 with car tires is going to buzz pretty good at 70 mph.

You can figure out your rpm/mph combo's here:

Yea, it says Jeeps but the math and calculator works without regard to brand or type vehicle.

Did you finally decide to get a toploader? Resolve your clutch issues yet?

I remember your 40 posts from before.

yeah its for my mustang. ive got about 500 horse coming out of the cleveland, so i thought maybe 3.50's would work. that site is very helpful so thanks for that. i got my tire size figured out and what not so thats good too. im getting a toploader here within the next few months. i got a little tight on money this past year so i havent been able to buy anything until now. the clutch is the least of my problems unfortunately right now because of where i am with the car overall.. i just got it back from the sandblaster, and my dad started on the body work.
