Smile drain valve

I know you guys did say where to get a valve where you can drain your oil with the flip of a switch.....I think its called the furmato valve.....but anyways where do you guys buy them online? My drain plug has only been out twice for my 2005 6.0 and for some odd reason it leaks. I want to get one of those drain plugs where all you have to do is flip the switch and your good. Where do you get those?

No offense...but, I did a google search and it took less time than it probably took you to type your thread / post.

Hey now Kieth... he may be a slow Google searcher (ha, ha).

Can also try www.dieselsite.com (admin note: do not deliberately by-pass the site software). This is where I bought mine and I got the retainer clip just in case.

The OEM plug uses a copper gasket that compresses after a few uses. Can always buy a new one for $1.00 - $2.00... but the Fumoto valve is slick!!!

I went without the nipple since it still drains easily and I did not want to hit it on anything. If you have 2WD, then go "no nipple".

Good luck,

Are you guys that use the Fumoto at all scared of ripping it off on something? Seems like it sticks out a little.

I do not have one as yet. While I do not go 4 wheeling, I do spend some time in my pastures and some rocky terrain when I go hunting.

I am more concerned with having to pull trash (grass, hay, brush, etc) away from it than having a clearance issue and busting it off.

In addition, I have been stuck a couple of times in my middle pasture...crappy General Tires and clay soil don't mix well...and I have wondered if I bottomed out if it would get the valve.

Almost ordered one today...decided to wait...again.

Wasn't Lamkin working on a FTE deal with those Fumoto boys?

No, I've taken my truck in some questionable fishing holes where I had very little clearance. The fumoto has been in for 25,000 miles and no problems. My only suggestion is before you drain, let the engine get warm and the oil flows much faster.

To actually engage the valve to drain requires 2 motions, like you have to pull it toward you then move it to the side. As for actually hitting the valve on a rock or something, I have not had that happen yet and hope to not put my truck in a situation where this is possible, but it does not stick out much further than the stock drain plug.

If you hit anything hard enough to make it TO the valve, you wouldn't have a tie rod, drag link, or track bar left on the front suspension...I think an oil leak would be the least of one's worries at that point

In all seriousness, its just so shielded by the frame and front suspension that I don't see how it would be possible. Not to mention they are pretty solid little buggers...I would imagine it would take a lick or two to knock it off.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, Matt.

I agree... from every thread I've ever read about the Fumoto on various sites, nobody has ever broken one off, and many, many people have used them.

Did my first oil change last night and installed the Fumoto. It will be for sale after my next change... I shouldn't have put it in. Sorry guys, but I think that valve is the biggest waste of money. I have never seen an easier vehicle to do an oil change on. There is almost no chance of spilling oil everwhere etc. When you unscrew the OEM drain, the oil drains straight down. It's not in at an angle at all.
The valve is somewhat protected from the front, but anyone that is saying it can't break off must never go off road much. I think it is extremely vulnerable where it is located. It might not be vulnerable going forward, but if you are in reverse the valve is one of the lowest points in your drive train with exception to your rear end. I have seen logs etc bounce up and dent oil pains many times. Not a big deal usually, but hit the valve once and I think you have a serious problem. I'm also concerned about the ease of flipping the lever to drain as well. If you are always on the street and never in the woods, it's a pretty good gizmo with exception to the ease of flipping the switch. The two actions to open it can easily be circumvented by one fairly small twig hitting it at an angle. If you EVER come close to bottoming out or go through brush etc, forget about this thing. For those of you that still like the idea, definitely NO nipple. It's not necessary.
This is just my opinion after installing it. Take it or leave it.

Hey Tollie,

That happened to me on the second oil change, go under there with your 19mm
wrench and a rag. Loosen the drain plug two turns, turn the copper gasket a half turn now retighten. wipe off the drip or two. DON'T OVERTIGHTEN

I wouldn't be without my Fumoto valve, along with the top mounted oil filter it makes oil changes almost a non-event. Even though it doesn't flow as fast as the regular drain plug, I use the time to change the filter. Taking an oil sample is a snap too.

Note, however, that the oil should be changed at operating temperature.

I don't worry about knocking the valve off or it opening by itself, I think that there is more chance that the kid changing your oil at a dealership would forget to tighten the drain plug. The results are the same aren't they?

I carry the original drain plug in the truck so that if something should happen I have a plug. Wonder how long the engine would run if all the oil drained out? By the very nature of the PSD I would imagine that it would quit rather quickly, possibly before any serious damage had been done. Anyone want to drain the oil while the engine is running and give us a report?

One last thing if doing a Google search spell it correctly, it's fumoto not furmoto...

I had the sure drain on my gasser (5.4L) and I could have sucked it out with a straw faster than that thing drained. I plan on trying the Fumoto hoping it drains much faster than the Sure Drain.

I tried everything from the oil cap to the dipstick to eliminate any suction. It didn't help. I could watch grass grow while draining the 6 qts my gasser took. Immagine draining 13.5 qts out of the 6.0!

Anybody got any experience with the speed of the drain with the Fumoto?

Big
