Can anyone help ID this camshaft (see link below)? It's got .500 lift on both lobes (with 1.73 rocker ratio). I hoping it's a NOS C8AX-6250-C cam. Did only 427 cams get the grooves in the number 2 and 4 bearing journals? I'm inclduing the link because it has photo's of the cam.
The attached post shows two pictures. One of the end journal with what looks like a 144MAZM maybe. The other is between the last lobe and journal. It's sprayed blue with some kind of date casting (not readable) I believe. Those are the only two indicators as far as I can tell.
I question weather it is NOS. its hard to say what it is there are several old cams with 500 lift and a couple with grooved 2 and 4 journals. The cam you are hoping it being, does not have grooved journals.
427 63/67 Hydraulic 282/296 with 58 overlap. I have the rest of the specs if you want them. This cam is the next step up from the 390GT/428CJ cam and with no other changes will give you about 15 hp over the CJ cam.
bear, he is not asking for c8ax-6250-c specs. He wants help with the identification of the cam in the pictures.
we know:
its has grooved journals, blue paint on the end, and 144mazm stamped on it. I am at a stand still without any more info. There should be some letters stamped on the cam bewteen lobes or something.
All the listings I have for the C8AX-6250-C cam state it has oil grooves on the 2 & 4 journals. From the looks of your pics I can kind of see a "C" but really hard to tell otherwise. Maybe try a lupe or mag glass for a better look. The two other Ford cams that have .500 lift are the C3AZ-AA and the C4AE-B and both have grooved journals but are mech lifter cams. Maybe try Dave Shoe, Hawkrod or Royce P if no other luck. I'm sure Royce P would know.....G.
The C8AX-C cam is marked "C8AX-C" on the end of the last journal, at least according to the Ford Muscle Parts Book. The C3AZ-AA cam is marked with an upside down A, then a BA between the last lobe and the last journal. The C4AE-B cam is marked with an upside down A and then an M, between the dist gear and the first journal. The last two cams are mechanical sticks. Actually there is a third Ford cam with .500 lift. A C3AZ-D marked with an upside down A and a B, between the last lobe and the last journal.
Alright. I checked it thoroughly again tonight. There are a few more indicators.
There is a C2 and D2 by the number 3 journal 180 degrees opposite from one another. On the other side of the journal, there is what appears to be a CW0 or maybe CMO.
Between the last lobe and number 5 journal there are several indicators. The first is a CWC (or CW8) with a 23 or 28 casting tag below it. 180 degrees from that is a SF 63 with a 6 or G enbossed in a casting tag below it.
Again, the number 2 and 4 journals have grooves in them. The lobe base circle is 1.510", the high point of the lobe is 1.800". This yields .290", or .5017 with a 1.73 rocker ratio.
The C8AX-C,according to the info in the books,is supposed to have the part # on the end of the last journal. This really doesn't mean a lot to me because I have removed many cams from non rebuilt FE motors and very few I have been able to ID from the current published info.I purchased a C8AX-c new in 1970 from Ford for a 1965 galaxy ragtop.I remember reading what came with the cam and I believe all it was a spec sheet glued to the box it came in.The only thing I'm sure of was the .500 lift printed on the sheet.
