I bought my truck last December and registered directly with Ford as the new owner. When I heard about the recall today I went to Ford's site to confirm if my truck was affected-- and got the following response:
Recalls VIN: 1FMFU18L9VLA61240
Number of Items: 1 Item ID: 05S28
RecallDate:

Problem - I contacted a local Ford dealer here in Ottawa Ontario, and they ran my VIN and categorically denied any outstanding recalls. I quoted them the response from the Ford site. They responded that they were directly connected to Ford's system, they saw no recall and wished me a good day.
Do I wait for a recall notice from Ford? I have a feeling I won't see one.
Is there a difference between trucks built in the USA for Canada with respect to this recall. I'm a little confused...

My truck is a '97 Expedition XLT 4x4 5.4L
Call another dealer, or wait for the letter. If another dealer is not possible, then print the page from the site and print the recall notice from the Ford site and take it to the dealer.
Did you buy the "fixed" switch from Ford? If so you can get your money back.
Yes but based on the part pictured in this image:
This time it appears Ford has issued a new wiring harness to be plugged inline between the swtich and existing wiring harness, not a new swtich which was addressed by the previous recall.

After reading more into this, it does not look like ford is replacing the switch like the other recall. So if you replaced the switch, then you will most likely not get you money back. If you bought the new harness, then you could. Think of it this way, you got a new switch and have / are getting a fused harness, I would feel better with this setup more so than those of us that only get the fuse.
After reading the posts here, and noting that Ford is saying it may be months before there are enough fused wiring harnesses to supply the millions of trucks covered by this recall, I've disconnected the connector at the potentially defective master cylinder speed control cutoff switch.
So my truck and house aren't going to burn up. . . But my speed control doesn't work any more (duh!) And that got me to wondering:
If the switch (normally closed) on the master cylinder is a secondary sensor -- the primary being the brake light circuit -- to switch off the speed control when the brakes are applied, why not just jumper the leads to the controller after disconnecting the switch? Of course this would only be temporary, until Ford comes through with the new fused harness, but it lets you eliminate the fire hazard while retaining use of the speed control, albeit with one less safety cutoff in place. And folks who rely on "cruise control" for fuel economy and to avoid speeding tickets won't be left without a driving aid upon which they've become dependent
I had the same thought a few months ago when I disabled mine based on the fact that they were still investigating. I'll have to check my schematic and get back - I have the factory manuals.

I think this fused jumper is a crock of S. H. I. T., is a bandaid to the real problem, and is Fords way of saving a ton of money! Personally, I want both the switch and the harness. Why do I want the switch?
Because it is the source of the problem. It leakes brake fluid, which is the starting point of the whole problem, right??? Fix the switch, fix the problem.
Then put the harness in as extra protection.
"Why does the harness save Ford money?" you ask. Well, watch the video. Mechanics can get the harness installed in less than a minute. To change the switch, they should bleed the brakes to do it right.
