Reverse sensor problem

I have a 2003 Excusion XLT premium that I bought used from a dealership a month ago.... the truck is beautiful and in mint condition.... after about a month of driving it with no problems, the reverse sensor alerts as soon as I put the truck in reverse.... at first I thought a kid or a dog or something walked behind the truck but nothing was there when I got out and checked.... it's not just an intermittent problem, it has been doing it every time I put the truck in reverse since the first time it started.... even in a wide open empty parking lot with nothing near me, it still goes off.... the sensors are clean and not damaged....

I plan to take it to the dealership anyway (under warranty) but I wanted to know if this is an on going problem.....

Thanks......

You have checked the obvious things and no it is not an ongoing problem. Either a sensor is dirty (but you checked), it is broke, or water got inside and messed it up.

I have an '03 Excursion and all is well and I have not heard of anything more than a bad or dirty sensor being the problem.

You will be fine... at least it is under warranty.

Backup Sensor Problems

I noticed on an especially hot day my sensors stay on (not beep) when I put the truck in reverse. By hot I mean the sun beating directly on the bumpers where the sensors are.

However, on a cooler day, my sensors work fine. Go figure! No dirt, no damage on mine either.

Drive Safe,

Dan

I think you guys will appreciate this...

My reverse sensor started acting up like what y'all are describing about 2 months ago. The only difference is that I was getting the solid tone like I was about to hit something.

I got out to check it and someone had backed into my rear bumper with a trailer hitch and bent the metal so that my reverse sensor was pointed directly at my trailer hitch making it think that it was about to back into something all the time...

Cool

my reverse sensors were going off one day and i found something attached to the hitch-my boat!what a pain when backing (i have a long driveway) i wish it could be turned off for each drive cycle rather than being reactivated when switching between drive and reverse....

Is it a solid beep like when you are close to something, or momentary when you first put it in? When I asked Ford about my momentary beep when going into reverse, they said it was normal. Not that it means anything coming from the Ford Dealer....
