alignment frustration

97 F250 HD w/ext. cab and long bed.

Took the truck to my local Firestone for an alignment today. Told the truck would be ready about 3pm. At 3:30 they called to say the truck is off the rack and everything is good. I go to pick up the truck and find out they never aligned it but they did move the rear tires to the front. They then presented me with a bill for an alignment. After some words and a manager I got my truck back.
They used to be good to deal with. WTF?This location has lost my business period.

Now that I am done venting.... Has anyone found their truck to be too long to fit on an alignment rack?? At least they didn't tell me I was low on hubcap lubricant.

I feel your pain, man! There aren't many places in the area where I live (excluding the Ford stealership) that can handle my long-bed crew-cab. And I wouldn't take it to a Firestone even if they could. I had a similar experience with the Firestone place here. I left my 88 F150 4x4 with them for an alignment and wheel bearing grease. When I picked it up, I noticed that the dirt on the front wheels had not been disturbed, like it would have been had they REALLY removed the wheels and serviced the bearings. I confronted the manager, who called the guy that supposedly serviced it at home. Believe it or not, the guy admitted that he had not serviced it! And they had charged me for it! Needless to say, I got my money back and never went back. They eventually closed the doors, no doubt because they were crooks. Time wounds all heals!

i have done many alignments on many very long trucks and i don't think i had one that would not fit my rack.

what kind of problem did you have? its possible they put it on the rack and the alignment was good but it had a pull that was caused by the tires. this is pretty common. maybe that why they rotated the tires. but still doesn't excuse their service.

i never have been impressed by chain service center anyway.

I had spent $250+ per tire for new tires on my Z-28 back in 1990.
The jerk at Firestone took the car off the lift, and went out and blew some donuts in the back parking lot. He didn't know I was there waiting for the car and saw the whole thing.

Went there for two new shocks on my Ford Escort in 1989, they determined I needed two new struts as well. Being in college at the time and not having a lot of money that really killed me finacially. Not knowing any better, I paid the bill I couldn't afford.

I'm glad I now make 30 times what I did then and could afford to by the best tires and service they offer, but would rather burn the cash than give it to them. I was so happy when Ford burned the 100 old year relationship with them. I wish they would go out of business for ever.

I hate Firestone with every cell in my body.
