I am looking at picking up a 2000 sport 2dr 4x4 w. 60k miles, 8900 price. There is a little rust on the step boards, and the rear bumper as well. NO rust anywhere else, inside of doors/hatch are rust clear and show no signs of it occuring anytime soon. What might be the reason for the rust?
I don't have any rust, but can anything really rust in Las Vegas?
If there is rust, whatever protection was preventing it is gone. If you have a chrome bumper, then somehow the chrome was scraped off and the rust was a result. The step boards are certainly going to get scraped up exposing the metal. Bare metal will always rust.
If the rust looks like it is blistering and flaking, then it is serious and it probably has rust in other places. Look especially close at the undercarriage for flakes of rust, a sign of eroding metal.
