David 1990,
I'm trying to remember what % I have. I think the sides are 20% and the back glass is 15%. I have a black reg. cab Super Duty and the black tint makes it look sweet. I wish I had pics of it but Im 2 hrs away from home here at College.
Whats the best way to do it? I have a 2006 Black F-350 6.0 larait Supercab I want to match the back windows with the sides. I am handy but am a little intimidated about it hearing all the bad things that could happen. What is the easiest way to do it. The theme of this truck is chrome. The Black and chrome looks awsome, I just ordered my tubular bed rails, Door handle and mirror caps, and a stanless bug deflector. I am friends with the parts manager, at one of the dealerships in my area, he hooked me up with the extra wide chrome steps that come on the chrome packg. They cost me a little less then $300 (I think they were dealer take off)
If you could give me an idea about the easiest way to do it without getting bubbles or crap like that. Thanks a bunch!
If you've never done, don't do it on your new baby. Bring it to a good shop and have them do a nice job for you. It cost me about $50 to have my front windows done w/ a lieftime warranty. Can't complain about that. If it bubbles, tears, peels, whatever bring it in.
The best way to do it it to pay the people that have been doing it for 20+ years. Not only do they have access to higher quality tint, but they do it all day so they get pretty good at it. Obviosly IMO. expect to pay between 150-250 for a full tint job witha strip. Most reputable shops offer a pretty good waranty on the work as well as the tint. OK here is the pics of 20% driver and pass windows 5% on the extra cab windows and slider.plus 6 inch strip of 5% on the windshield.
I did the tint myself on the 4Runner I traded for this truck and for an amateur, I thought I did a pretty good job. It took me a whole day to do it because I took all the windows out of the truck to make sure I got to all the edges. I did 20% on the sides and 5% in the back. Even though I was happy with my last tinting job, I'd like to leave this one to the experts. The only problem is that the only tint shop that has been recomended to me so far will only go as dark as 35% on the front windows. Apparently that is the legal limit in Washington, but I kinda liked the darker 20% I had before, so I may wind up doing it myself again.
I have limo on the ext cab portion of the truck (side windows and rear) and then medium (which is a bit darker than legal) on the sides. I had a buddy of mine do it about 5 years ago and it's still holding up.
On another note, someday I'm going to have to get new driver and pass. glass though. All those years at the dunes scratched the heck out of my windows (on the outside) and now you can see streaks/scratches in it from rolling the windows up and down.
I have 20% on the front, 5% on the back. If I was to do it over again I would go with 5% all the way around, because I don't like people being able to see what I am doing inside. In Tennessee the legal limit is 35%, but at most tinting places they have you sign a paper that says it is for offroad use only. Most cops have better things to do than pull you over for having your windows too dark anyway. I would let the professionals do it, it is very hard to get it right, I had some friends do it to their trucks and it looked good for about 1 year, then it started to bubble up and fall off.
We use sungaurd brand , great tint, most limo tint is 5%., ps you need the extra wide tint for a superduty, if doing your own windows start with a new bucket , with a half a teaspoon of dishwashing soap in it let it sit over night so the suds dissapear, pour it into a spray bottle, soap makes it move easily, but wont show up when the tint dries unless you use to much, hope this help , Craig
