Thats great until someone gets hurt. I've had 1% visibility on a used chevy I bought and the DPS officer verified it for me right before he gave me a ticket. With tint that dark it is extremely dangerous to drive at night with the windows up. Pedestrians and motorcycles watch out.
It looks good on show trucks and when parked, but I understand why it is illegal.
I don't drive it that much. It's not a daily driver. Just a weekend toy, something to pull stuff with, and a something to go hunting in. I can't remember the last time I drove it through town in the dark with the windows up. I'm not sure if I ever have unless it was raining.

i put 20% in the back windows and 35% in the front, MA law won't allow anything darker than 35% in the front. if i could do it over again i'd prob put 20% in the front if not, darker all the way around. the shop wouldnt give me a receipt for the 20%. but it's all still guaranteed for life. i think it cost around $180
I put 20% over the factory tint in the back and 50% on the front. The dark back windows make the front look darker than 50% but keeps you legalUse the tint with metal in it. It will last longer and reflects more light (looks darker too). This is dark enough that you dont have to swtch the rear view mirror to night mode and keeps privacy. Also looks real good
In SC on trucks, the driver windows cannot be darker than 20%. However, with the low percentage of tint in the window from the factory, you have to use 35% window tint. You have a total of 27% with this setup.
The factory rears (door) and rear window are already tinted to 20%. Law allows any percent behind drivers windows here. I didn't do anything to rear doors, I added 20% to the rear window and a 5% strip on the windshield.
BTW, cops might not stop you just for window tint, but if I stop you and you are over the legal limit (i.e. very dark or colored tint), you will be getting a citation for it! I very much dislike not being able to see into a vehicle on a stop...
Be sure to check your states laws concerning tint before investing a couple hundred bucks. Any reputable tint shop can provide you a copy of your states tint laws. Also, here in SC, I can ticket out of state vehicles over our tint laws depending on my mood and your attitude....
Be sure to check your local laws first. Every state is differnet. 50% is not very dark for the front but it does help reflect the heat from the sun which makes the ac not have to work as hard which gives you better mpg...every little bit helps these days.
Factory tint is 20%. Get 15% on the front two if you want it to visually match from the outside. You have to allow for the light entering through the windshield.
hey guys new to forum. I up graded my truck to an '05 F250 SD. As far as tint goes i have limo tint on my windows @5% all the way around except the driver and passenger windows which are leagal 35%.
in hawaii the law allows trucks, vans and suvs to go as dark as you want except for the front 2 windows which has to be no less than 35%.
Hey guys, I did a little searching and found this chart that shows what is legal in each state. It shows how dark each window can be, how much reflectivity, what color tint is allowed, how big the windshield strip can be, etc. http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/consumer_in...statelaws.html
federal highway laws state no tint on the windows in front of the drivers seat back darker then then the factory level . which i think is some weak number. but each state has it's own level laws over rideing the feds.
in new jersey the law is no tint on the front doors or windsheild . the vehicle maybe impounded if the officers is a hard nose about it. .
i had one make me remove mine on the spot. never again
When it says 35%, in the posted chart, it doesn't mean 35% tint, but 35% light transmission. So the higher the number, the more light passes through. 35% means 35% light goes through the window, blocking 65%. I'm sure some people know this, but I thought I'd throw that out there in case people were thinking of it the other way around. I have 22% or 16% on my front windows...I can't remember exactly, and it is darker than the rear, but you can't tell very well unless the opposite side windows are down and you can see through only one window with a lot of light behind it.
It took a doctor's prescription before the local tinting company I used would do it. They also keep a copy of the prescription, because in Oregon the installer can also be fined. The police will peel the tint off your window at the time of giving you a citation here, so you can't just drive off and pay a fine, keeping the tint on the windows. A good installer, with a high quality film is definitely the way to go.
How much ''should'' it cost me to tint a 2006 250 Supercab black truck???
I live in Maryland, have gotten a quote for $260... seems very high! There is no factory 'privacy glass', windows are clear.
