i bought a 93 ranger from a friend after he blew the tranny for $200, come to find out when i pulled the tranny i found a burnt smell, shredded bearings, seized gears, and no fluid. my geuss the clutch he just replaced about 400 miles before, he forgot the fluid, cant wait for him to get back from iraq to show him how good his mech skills are..lol anyway i installed a new transmission now i have no power. it dosent smoke, leak, and at idle it runs fine .it drives like a brand new truck except coming to a stop it sounds like its going to die and after i stop the engine comes back up to a good idle. i found one vaccum line unhooked but ive already fixed that. i have however noticed that there is no exhaust coming through the exhaust pipe! i drilled a hole in the cat probaly not really big enough to do any good and yes i plan to replace it but i do have pressure through the two holes i drilled. there is hardely any from the hole in the muffler and none at the taipipe. the truck takes about 10 seconds to get up to 35 i know its not a mustang, but i believe it should accelerate a little faster than that. so do i have a bad exhaust or possibly somthing else? hate to put alot of money into it and it still not work.
It sounds to me like you really screwed something up... take a day and re-trace your steps. You already found one thing you overlooked, there could be many things you've overlooked. If I'm understanding you correctly, the act of stopping actually bogs the engine down?? Have you been hunting around to find where the exhaust is actually going? I'd make that a priority.
