Okay, 1/2 the dash gauge cluster in my sisters 93 f350 (which technicly is mine) is out. i was trying to install a custom stero and could not figure out the right power source for the new radio as ford has 5 wires in the back of the oem radio. 1 ground & 4 positive wires. so after screwing it up i put the old radio back in and turned the key on, and the electric speedometer read out for mileage did not come on. i thought to my self ~fuse blown?~ nope, i reconnected all the wires to their orginal connections when i put the radio back in.
I did do this.
I have crossed a couple of the + wires when installing the radio to try and get sufficiant power but none would cut it. and also pulled on those wire quite strongly, so i think some wire in the dash is fried or just loose from the connection of were it should be.
that and half the radio does not work. ie if i use my ipod it will play, but only as loud as the ipod goes but it does quiten the music when you turn it down from the half way point but wont go louder from that. but with out the ipod you can not tune the radio as their is not enough power.
So in short the following does not work:
Speedo, Mileage, Trip, Tach(never worked when i got the truck), 1/2 the radio, warning buzzer, interior lights for night use (thus 1/2 dash cluster not working)
but all the dash lights light up with out a problem.
The truck drives normally and with out problem as i dont have the e40d in that vehicle a 5spd w/od just went out 2 days ago.
I think you should check all fuses........then the PSOM module connection as it passes speedo info to the dash. There are 2 plugs for the instrument cluster ensure they are firmly plugged in. If you want radio power plug info and PSOM email me and I can scan and send it.
