What is the story on the plugs on the 03 and up? Someone told me Ford redesigned the head and plugs, and now you don't ever change the plugs themselves? Find it hard to believe.
They probably read this forum, figured that we twarthed their evil design of making it really hard to change the plug (on 1st Gen XP), and ante-up the task, so DIY guys would lose heart, give up, and bring the vehicle to the dealership for service

I just replaced the plugs on my '97 Expedition, & I can tell you with 100% certainty that the plugs have been redesigned. There is a write-up somewhere on this site about the new plugs. Visually, I could tell that the new plugs have more threads & a very different center electrode design.
As far as Ford redesigning the heads on 03+ models.......I've heard that, too.
Lastly, the "plugs never need changing" line means the same thing to me as other so called "lifetime" items, such as PS fluid, Transmission fluid, etc. Nothing lasts forever. It insults my intelligence when I read that such things never need to be replaced.
