i need help

well I took my ranger xl with 31's 11x50 super swamper ltb's 4 wheelin' earlier today and there was this 3 or 4ft mud hole. I got myself in but i got out of the hole but I think I clogged mud in the starter and jamed in the trasmission. My truck runs but it only runs when i jump start it so it would it not be the started if it still runs without dying? I think it might be the alternator messed up but i cleaned it and it still wont start without jumping it. Does anybody know the reason why its not turning?

If it starts from jump starting it but not on its own, I would venture to guess you either knocked a cable/wire off while wheelin, or you could have flooded something out. Do this first...jump start the truck, turn on all of your accessories while it is running. If the truck continues to run then odds are good it is not your alternator. Start cleaning connections, especially your ground wires. It wouldnt be your starter if it still starts when you jump start it, nor would it be your solenoid. It must be a connection somewhere, or possibly a fried battery, but doubtful on that.

If the battery light light is on it is an indication that the battery is not being propery charged and that means an alternator problem. Take it to a checker auto parts or some other chain parts store and they will do a check on it for free. Good luck!

yeah it sounds like either the battery is not taking a charge or the altinater is not putting out a charge. take it to autozone, oriley's or somewhere like that. they will run a test for free, but I would advise you not to buy an altinater from autozone. I have rarely got one from them and it be good on the first one, but that is just my opion. Maybe its just the shop where I live. anyways good luck and let us know what happens
