Unhappy Tranny Issues Already!!

Hey guys. I just bought a 05 F-150 SupCrew 5.4L Lariat about two weeks ago and it seems like I am having tranny issues already. 600 miles on it!!!Here are my problems:

1. When I press the gas pedal after starting the truck I hear and feel a clunk in the shifter itself. It clunks everytime I press on the break before I put in gear whether it be in reverse or drive. It only does it when the truck is started and idling.

2. Sometimes when I turn and give gas I have the same clunk.

3. And finally, when I let go of the gas and then I try to accelarate It does the same thing. It usually seems around second gear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and If you guys had this issue and got it fixed at the dealer Please let me know what it was.

marski55,
I've got an 05 F150 Scab 5.4L XLT 4x4 3.55LS 2000 miles on it. I too have noticed your first issue. My thought is that it is the "step on the brake before you shift from park" lock or whatever the actual name for it is. Whether that is just a normal sound to hear from it or not??? Not sure. Haven't had the second problem but I have noticed the third problem when letting off from 55mph due to approaching a stop light and then the light turns green and you gas it again, and clunk!!!! I'd be interested in others comments on this one as well.

Excessive driveline lash. Take it in and get it sorted.

Tranny Problems

I too was noticing the clunk and hesitence to shift, unless you let off the gas. I took it the local dealer, and they said that there is a TB out there to get the computer reprogrammed. They did this, and I havnt really had a problem since.

I'm surprised they fixed it Opie. There have been a few posts about that clunk, (I have it as well) and the dealers where supposedly told to leave it alone, as it was under investigation. Did they reporgram your engine, or where they able to do the tranny separately? I'd like to use this info as ammo when I bring mine in at it's next service.

I hear the click and feel it through the brake pedal sometimes when shifting out of park, or sometimes when idling with the truck in park and just tapping the brake pedal. Most of the time it's quiet.

Tranny Problems

Well...My service manager I use in the Fleet Department takes care of me pretty darn good. I run a site with quite alot of vehicles. Most are Fords, so I think that helps. The original technician didnt find anything, then this SM called me and I asked him to drive it on the open freeway, and he noticed it. Then he got ahold of one of his Ford Factory people and they said yeah that there was a problem. Tommorow when I get to the office, I will get what they said they did to fix it. It was a clunk, and I 2 thought at first it was the drive line...But I checked it myself and it was fine...
