Setting Timing
Do I have to diconnect the vaccum line to the distributor when setting the timing in my 1950 F1 straight six flathead?

Yes, disconnect and plug the vacuum line from the carb, or you will have a vacuum leak.

Yes. Applies to most carb powered vehicles. Just rechecked the timing on my 55 239V8 yesterday and the shop manual says to disconnect.
