My 79 F-150 has melted the heatsink stuff out of the back of the box twicw inthe last 3 or 4 years.I changed coils and went over all connections the first time so I'm looking for suggestions.One thing that just came to mind though is thatI'm running non-resistor plugs cause I bought a box of them from a Ford dealer on a clean out day.

The plugs are OK. Get a good Motorcraft module and mount it on 1/4" spacers above the fender. This will keep the box cool and avoid meltdowns.

Also, while the truck is running, check the voltage on the coil +, with the other meter lead to the engine block. If you have 12 volts on the coil, someone has done some re-wiring and have bypassed the resistor in the coil + wire. This would put an extra strain on the coil and the box if it was missing. You should have around 8 to 10 volts on the coil + with the engine running.
