Burning a quart between changes
It seems so unusual to me that this high revving motor does not appear to use any oil.
My 02 Honda Accord also calls for 5-20 and it has always taken a quart every 1500 miles and that is no concern to me. I will have to try this Motorcraft 5-20 in the Honda to see if it goes further without adding.
double check your hose to the oil filter relocator - it can get rubbed until it leaks oil... but ONLY when the engine is on (pressure) and when turning right or left.
check under the front of your vehicle (driver side) near the front left axle. i had a bunch of oil covering all those parts but never had any leaks in my drive way.
here's a pic...

...disregard the red square - i used this pic for another post. if you look to the right of the red square though you can see where the oil filter relocator hose has been worn down (through metal) and split the hose.
again, with all of the hoses and suspension parts in the way the oil never made it to my driveway - just coated all of those parts and collected in an area beneath the hose.
the leak, according to those i've spoke with, only occurs when there is pressure in oil line, during a turn (left or right) which causes one of the steering parts to press against the hose. it takes these two things together to cause the leak.

Now that's a lot of oil! Never thought about what idling long periods would do for oil consumption - seems odd. I've heard we shouldn't let the new ODB2 autos idle long as it has a neg. effect on gas consumption though.

***UPDATE***
thanx everyone for all of your replies! i think i got the leak whipped... for now anyways! i decided to try and patch it with a rubber cement / rubber patch kits like the ones we older guys used to fix our inner-tubes on our huffy bikes

i first used some steaming cleaner in a black spray can from wallmart which uses the heat from your engine and a water hose to get rid of the grease and build up. then i wiped the area down with a disposable towel (old shirt) for the more stubborn stuff.
then i opened the rubber cement tube and spreaded it over the leaking area and let it get a bit tacky. then i used my lighter to heat it up really good and placed a rubber patch (that i pre-cut to fit that small area) pressed it to the cement really good. when it stayed on there without me holding it i used the lighter again to heat it around the edges good then pressed it on some more to make sure it was adhered to the hose.
i changed the oil and filter with some motorcraft 5w20 (woot! my wallymart had it) and the motorcraft FL820S filter. it has now been about two weeks since this change and fortunately it hasn't lost a drop since the change that i can tell! this is with what seems to be a thinner oil too from what i've heard.
anyways, thanx a bunch for all the replies and don't worry, i don't plan to keep the bike patch (lol) on there too long - i just need to find a reasonably priced relocation kit as the ones i've seen online are all chromed out custom jobs that cost way more than i want to spend for this part.
thanx again!
ps... i'll be posting again soon as i just noticed today that i have some kind of steam/vapor or smoke coming through my vents when the a/c is on and the red to blue control dial is pointing to 12 oclock. there is also a very strong coolant/antifreeze odor inside the truck.
here's a link if you think you can help me with this...
Which truck are you having this problem with? Your public profile shows a 2001 F250 and a 2006 F250 and I didn't see where you mentioned what year truck your talking about.
