my a/c and heat work but there is no refridgerant left in a/c. could someone tell me how to charge the a/c cause i want to do it myself. i have a 1992 ranger ext cab. also my dad has a 1996 ford contour that has a/c and refridgerant, but it only runs out from the vents by the windshield. could some one please tell me how i could fix it?
The 92 uses R-12 so I'd suggest looking into a conversion kit (R-134a). You will also need at minimum a gauge on the suction side to determine the correct amount of refrigerant. Ideally you will have a gauge set. I'd suggest getting a book explaining A/C principles and how A/C works (and no, not a Haynes ). Charging and doing conversions is not rocket science, but there are a few ways a guy could get hurt.
On the 96, you probably have a vacuum leak or no vacuum applied to the HVAC system. Most Fords I've seen default to defrost under a no vacuum situation. Begin under the hood by checking for vacuum at the vacuum reservior.
