I have a lot of questions and using the search isn't helping. First of all, what is up with it having 8 spark plugs on a four cylider. I would imagine it would have something to do with emissions and trying to burn the fuel better. What kind of gas mileage should i be getting with this truck. Also, it has 148k miles on it and needs a bit of a tune up, any suggestions, recommendations. The interior carpeting is kind of trashed, cheap fixes? I paid $500 bucks for this truck and from what i've been driving, it is well worth it. It just had the tranny rebuilt not too long ago and fairly new exhaust piping done on it. Please give me as many tips and info as you possibly can. Thank you all for taking the time.

The 8 plugs in the 4 cylinder is for more power. My sons '92 Ranger has 162k on it and it gets about 27 mpg. You can't set the timing if you do a tune up due to there not being a distributor. You should have 2 coil packs, one for each 4 spark plugs. You can however, check the timing to see if it's off or not. As far as carpet goes, You could get some cheap remnant or something and cut it to fit. Hope this helps.
Do you have an recommendations on parts to do a tune up, like plug brands or types, and wire brands. Is there anything to watch out for as i'm doing the tune up myself. As far as the timing, why would i need to check that, and how would i check it.
Use motorcraft plugs... and high quality wires.. i personally like motorcrafts.. but just don't use the cheap-o "duralast" autozone wires... seen LOTS of problems with those.
The 8 plugs isn't for more power so much as to ensure complete cumbustion.
