i too thought the ford piece was expensive. so in a effort to save money i bought one of the 15.00 ones form kragen it worked and then left me stuck on the freeway a month later. so i repalced it with another one under warranty and it was DOA right out of the box.so i had my expy in for service and just asked the parts guy if they still sell voltage regualtors for these and he looked up the part number and grabbed one he had 5 in stock.

Ya, I kinda of wanted to avoid this. I have had similar luck with cheap parts on other vehicles.
