I saw a post that had a broadcast message about a noise coming from the steering column or gearbox when turnning left. I was wondering what kind of 'noise' this is and what it sounds like. I have a noise that you can feel in the steering wheel, tire, and tie rod (as far as i can trace it). It only does it to the left while standing still, and it only does it when you turn it fairly quickly, if you turn it slowly or are moving, it never makes a noise. Havent had time to have it looked at and i was wondering if it was a lubrication thing. It makes a distinct low pitch squeek or chirp, and if you turn from lock to lock (left) it may make this sound twice with steering wheel rotation.
I posted the thread you are referring to. Mine sounded as if it was coming from the steering column as well ? The service department said alot of things including there was a TSB on this exact thing. They replaced- moved- tightened- and loosened to the point where I was going to go to the lemon law. The last thing they claimed they did was replace the steering box. I picked up the truck last Friday and it made one odd noise and hasn't made one since. I will continue to monitor the steering but they seem to FINALLY have it fixed.
To me it sounded like it was low on fluid- the pump squels or groans. Only did it turning left. They replaced the drag link, ball joints, power steering hoses, power steering pump, and finally the steering box and that is when it quit. I still am not confident they knew what they are doing. I initially thought it was in the steering column, but it wasn't. Hope this helps!
