speedo calibration

I have a 98 F150 with 35's and I have heard that you can have your speedo recalibrated at a ford dealership and Ive also heard you have to buy a speed calibrator and need to know if it can be done at my local Ford dealer or if I have to buy a calibrator. I plan on doing this after I change gears will the dealer still be able to help or should I buy a calibrator after my gear swap? It really doesnt bother me too bad now but after the gear swap I know it will be even more off than it is now.

I'm sure the dealer can do it...for a nominal fee.

You can also do it with a chip or programmer.

Typically the nominal fee isnt to nominal but the chips or programmers are $300-$400 so it may be my best option.

Call a few dealers and get a price for a reprogram. Some dealers just charge you 1/2 hr worth of labor, about $40 bucks. But if you go with the programer you'll be able to do a lot more than just recalibrate the speedo.

Just guessing, I'd say the dealer is going to charge you what, $100-150(?) just to get your speedo correct.

A little more, being that you are modding anyway, and you can gain a little more power and get rid of the speed/rev limiters.

Just a thought, Good luck.

Yea, some will try to stick it to you, but some will just charge you 1/2 hr's worth of labor. It doesn't take put a few minutes to plug in the computer and punch a couple of buttons.

Thanks I geuss I will do that once I've done my gear swap.

I dont really care about the speed limiter its on 35's so spped isnt an issue and the difference in price for the programmer is not worth the difference in cost to me.
