I'm looking to get a vehicle that gets better mileage than the Windstar I'm currently driving. I drive about 700-800 miles a week so I'm considering getting a late model Taurus. I'm sure there are a few people here that have a Taurus and I'm wondering what kind of highway mileage I can expect to get.
I have gotten 31mpg on the highway (setting cruise at 65mph) with a 1988 Taurus L with a 3.0l and 125 thousand miles. although the factory said 27 for highway mileage.
My daily driver is a 99 Sable 3.0, and I get 22mpg, consistantly. All my miles are in the suburbs of North Houston. I've never taken it on a long hiway trip, I like my truck for those, so I couldn't tell you the mpg for that.
I had a sable with a 3.0 and got 23 and a taurus with a 3.0 that got 24 highway, 28-29 interstate cruise. I have a sable right not with the dohc 3.0 and I have to say 22-25.
My 99 Taurus wagon is my commuter - 800 miles weekly - I average 22-24 highway (mostly) but occasionally (and I don't understand why)...I get 34mpg. She has the Duratec 24V/DOHC with 106k miles on her. Still doesn't use a drop of oil and runs as good as the day we bought her!!! BEST Ford I've ever owned.
If you can figure it out please let me know. I always top off my tank until it's standing in the fill tube, visible from the outside and not disappearing into the tank, so I know my fill-ups are consistent.
Now if we could just unload that 02 Explorer...with the 4.6 V8 ...WHAT A GAS HOG!!! My 98 Expedition did as well on the highway with its 5.4!!!
