Hello all.. my truck is a 99 ford ranger, 3.0 engine with 100905 miles..I replaced the IAC, belt, pully, air control hose, spark plugs, wires, changed the raditor fluid (flushed it), oil change..
Man, the truck sometimes feels like it is about to die when I am rolling to a stop.. it shakes and idles very low.. runs great, AC blow out warm air when it is struggling but when I get on a good roll then it cools inside of truck..
I am concerned on how it is shaking and almost feeling like it will die right there..
dang, I am rather surprised, I have been into this forum room and there are always someone who responded and rather quick. I am not special at all but my expirences in here was always great, I am rather surprised.
It will help if you can be a little more clear about the problems. Do you have a check engine light? Have you had the codes pulled? How did the problem start? does it act up when the a/c is off?
Any other info you can think of to help narrow the problem down.
Dave
No check engine light, codes have been cleared (2 months ago)..The problem started last week and the engine still idles low even without the ac on . To be honest, I should have been paying attention before I replaced the spark plugs if the truck was doing that, but looking back before then, it was not. at least not as bad as it is now.
I have replaced spark plugs with Bosch Platinum +4.. I had a mechanic run codes and all sensors are working and the catalyst converter is ok. He said however that because the codes have been cleared it was not registering on his system diagnostic machine and therefore the truck is notsending signals and the truck does not know it has a problem? that is why the check engine light is not on.. but sensors are ok?
My other mechanic is saying the spark plug I have installed is not double plat and suggested auto lite brand instead of Bosch..
Mechanic # 1 that can't read codes has a problem in his scanner, the ecu will kick a code as the last thing it can do even as it dies.
Mechanic #2 is right, PLUGS. Do a search here and you will see lotsof problems with the non autolight platium plugs. use autolight or motorcraft only. that is my best guess, if thats not the problem get back to us and we will look further.
Dave
i would also stick with the autolite or motorcraft wires too but hey i try to keep my truck all original no aftermarket stuff for me
mine is also a 99 and it has the 4 banger in it and i have the same problem
I too have read about complaints with bosch plugs. I'd use Motorcraft plugs, single or double platinum, whatever was OEM for that engine and model year.
Ok, well I exchanged the spark plugs for my truck and went with the original spark plugs that was installed and came with the truck-Motorcraft Plat.
Still same problem..It shakes while coming to a stop and sometimes it shakes while I am stuck on traffic even with the ac off.
also, while I replaced the spark plugs, my mechanic showed me something about the spark plugs that were removed..on 3 spark plugs with the 4 prongs: (Bosch Platinum +4) there was a star pattern on the spark plug and he said the spark was looking for somewhere to go and also the 4th spark plug it looked like it was hit and while inside the truck and the other 2 spark plugs were not even used..
He said it could be the wires and so did the auto zone so I will try that.. what do you think?
Yes there will be a guide in your service manual with the firing order, and the positions on the engine and the ign box. you may want to try a search in this fourm if you don't have it. It has been posted.
