What is a good tire / lift combo size?

Hi all! I've seen a bunch of "whats the largest tire I can fit ....", or "what size lift do I need for tire size xxxx .....". I've read the FAQ, and seen recomended tire size / lift needs.

But what I need are some good recomendations. I want a good tire size / lift combination for a daily driver, that will do some off roading. I don't want to get so high that I'm top heavy. In jeep TJ world, I was comfortable with 4.5 inch lift with 35" tires. 8" in 38's was too high for the TJ. BUT, I have some idea that height isn't as big an issue in my 2003 F250 as it was in the little TJ.

Do you all have any good recomendations? Should I go with a 6" and 36? Is an 8" with 38"'s starting to get too high? Or is 8" really nothing on these trucks?

Thanks for any info!!

I've liked the Goodyear MTR siped in the past. I'm in IL, so mostly mud trails and fields, but may do a little light rock crawling.

I've got a 2003 F250SD XLT FX4, 7.3 diesel.

Thanks!

ok well, like i have mentioned before i love my buckshots and so far they have lasted a long time! you might look into tsl ssr's as they last a long time as well

for a daily driver might i suggest 35's maybe 37's. this way you still have a decent height but you can still get in and out of the truck easily and with 35's you shouldn't need more than 1-2" of lift (or a leveling kit)

thats just my opinion

here's what my powerstroke looks like with my 35's

Thanks for the rec on 35's. I ran 35's on a TJ, and I was worried they would be too small (much smaller relatively) on the big F250.

Anyone else have a rec?

THANKS!

5.5" of lift and 36" TSLs.....Mainly cuz thats what I have in my ol truck which is gonna be my DD on the farm as well as a mud/snow/hunting truck.

I almost bought a super duty with 4" lift and 35s and a diesel (2002) and it was about perfect for a DD if you ask me.

Here is my '04 with 6" lift and 36" TSL Radials. If you go 8" you can get 38's.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=16708

If you are gonna off road hard and don't want to trim the valance or shim the bumper, get 35's. I had to trim the valance slightly and put the draw-tite receiver behind the front bumper to space it a little. 37's are a tight fit on 6" and you may rub the inner fender well. I wouldn't go 37 on 6" lift unless you are only gonna do some light off-road.

Good looks on an SD is 4" with 35's, 6" w/ 36's, or 8" with 38's.

i have had 3 lifted SD's, 2 with BFG M/T 35's and a four inch skyjacker, and 1 with 37 Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips and a 7 inch pro comp with new rear springs. In my opinion, the crew cabs look great with the 37's and the parnelli is hands down my alltimefavorite tire.

If you're looking for a tire that'll last a long time on and offroad i'd look into a set of ground hawgs (remember they measure small), then as said above the 38's and an 8" looks killer but the bed height might be getting up there a bit to high to be useable

If youre gonna seriously rockcrawl your gonna need some lift under that thing...

SD's w/ 4dr lb are long (i know) and bottom out if your not used to your vehicle....
Personally, If I had a SD id go 38's on 8", its tight and gets the job done.
