im not clear here. do you mean that you dont know how to calculate it? or what a normal is?
first off we need to know which engine type you have. that would give us a ballpark.
to calculate mileage, fill up the tank to the top, reset the trip odometer. when you go to refill the tank (try to go as long as possible on that tank), check how much you put in the tank (example 40 gallons.) then check the trip odometer, and see how far you went. then take the mileage and divide by the gallons filled. (ex. if you went 740 miles, that would make mileage 18.5mpg, pretty good.)
I have exact rig with a 5.4, if thats the engine you have expect 12-13 on a good day for city, 9-10 if you drive like me , V-10s are maybe 1 mpg or 2 worse. 6.0 liters in your setup could go all the way to 19 highway!
I have a standard cab with the 5.4 and a 5 spd, 4x4 and I'm gettin 15 - 15.5 and that's mostly around town... heading out to school on monday, we'll see how she does on the highway
Sorry about the lack of details, I need the mpg that was from the factory. I have even called the local Ford dealer and they were having a hard time finding out what the factory listed for MPG.
I have a 2003 F250 2WD XLT Shortbed with 5.4 Liter.
It doesnt have an EPA rating, thats cool that you guys get 15 around town in a 5.4, i dont . Mine has always gotten 12-13 even when i baby it and i guess thats not the norm! Oh well
Getting 15 mpg requires a little bit of adaptation, as well as a few tune ups. New air filter, not sure if my exhaust helps, I put my 5spd in neutral and coast whenever it makes sense to, I try not to come to complete stops when it's safe to... getting that much weight rolling from a dead stop requires a lot of gas, so even if you're going 5 mph, it's better than nothing, I've heard synthetic oil gains something, but I'm still running regular ol' napa oil and filter. Before I go back to school I'd like to change my diff, trans and tcase fluid, and replace the fuel filter in hopes of seeing 16 on the way out to school. (all highway) It seems like a pain, but after a day of driving, it just becomes second nature. I was getting 13mpg before I really started paying attention to the way I was driving. As a side, I'm running 265's for tires... getting some skinny winnies would definately show improved milage, but I can't stand the way it looks.
I've seen 14mpg on my best day, and that was really taking it easy on the freeway in moderate traffic. I've got the V10, 4wd, 35in. tires, and a Banks exhaust and intake. I've heard the price of gas goes up today because of Labor Day and also because Hurricane Katrina damaging oil rigs and refineries. Most days I don't worry so much about milage but I might consider taking the bus to work a little more often.
I really dont care about the cost of gad, its just i wonder how i could drive better and get up to 15, i think complete stops has a lot to do with it. Like you said Cuda, getting 7-8000 pounds rolling from a dead stop with a 5.4 takes some umph
