I was driving around today and finally relized that it's hard to get out of second gear for some reason For example: I'll be driving going into first coming out of first around 15-20mph going into second gear pretty good around 40-45 mph it's hitting around 4k rpm it's in overdrive of coarse but it never did this before I'm guessing it could be one of 2 things A: transmission problem wich I hope to god its not or B:My MAF is not calibrated correctly if anyone has had this or similar problem please resond
I have a 1996 bronco XLT 351W automatic transmission thanks
MAF has no impact on tranny shift points. The MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) sends data to the PCM that does impact your air/fuel ratio and long term fuel calibration curves. The PCM in a 96 bases your transmission shift points on input from the speed sensor (rear differential) and engine rpm (lots of internal formulas and calculations going on in the computer that I am not even gonna pretend to have a clue about). When you drive it pay close attention to the speedometer, if it is behaving erraticaly you may have a speed sensor fault. The PCM actually controls shifts by sending electronic signals to the tranny solenoids. You could have a problem in the PCM or a solenoid problem in the tranny.
Check for any failure codes (check engine light on or off?). If there are none there is one quick and easy thing you can try. Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so. This clears the computer and eliminates all the "learned" correction and calibration curves. If the problem was a transient glitch in the PCM, the reset may take care of it. Your rig will not behave normally until you drive it for a while so that it can "relearn" the correction curves. If your tranny problem is still the same, methinks you may be off to the tranny shop.
pull codes. if your tranny is acting up it will store one. like said above your mlp solenoid is located on the side of tranny. if its not working properly that will cause your shift issues. also take and remove the VSS solenoid from the top of your rear differential. clean it up and reinstall. this will insure that the axle is sending a good signal to the computer. what size tires are you running? when was the last time you had the tranny serviced?
