We have two Ford's, My Bauer Explorer(Which I LOVE - my 5th one!) and his Limited PSD 2002 EX 4*2 - which I love even more
So here's the story - we drive the EX everywhere - lots of trips, little towing - but recently bought property that will be mostly dirt roads. Also have 90K in mileage. With this being the last year for the EX - I want a new one with 4*4. I like the diesel(great mileage - we average 19-20) we also live in the mountains and do a fair amount of traveling up and down.
So...Brand new "05 - fully loaded Bauer EX 4*4 with every option but the chrome runners. Has it all...Between the family pricing, rebate and the last of these beasts to be seen...Want to pull the trigger on it tomorrow.
He says...Will they get cheaper (I think not - anyone know of better deals), he's concerned the 6.0 diesel not as good as the 7.3. Other argument is that Ford will come out with a bigger better SUV - (I think not - the EX is GREAT).
Is he gonna miss anything going from a limited (2002) to a Bauer(loaded with premier package, SLip, Heater, DVD, Tow etc)?
No we cannot keep the 2002 - must sell if we get the '05(although I was trying that as well)
i have a v10 myself but from what i have read and a few buddys have told me the 6.0 sucks compared to the 7.3 in RELIEABLITY, maybe not hp and torqe. this is what i have been told and read. if you do a search on here you will find lots of info on this subject! that said i have a 2000 limited so all the eb have more than mine but on the newer ones i think the only differances are colors and interior,if the eb is fully loaded.you can search for that also there have been a few threads on it as well. i am looking for another x as well and like you am going to 4x4 diesel plus i am keeping the 2000 limited 2wd v10 but think i am going with a 2003 4x4 7.3 from what i have read they came with the 7.3 part of 2003 then went to the 6.0. i have been looking at a 2001 limited 4x4 with the 7.3 but really wanted one a little newer. hope this helps
Ford will come out with a bigger better SUV - (I think not - the EX is GREAT).
What they're coming out with is a stretched Expedition, sort of a Cheby Suburban clone. Then once that's out there will almost certainly be a full luxo-cruiser boat Lincoln version for serious money that will depreciate at a record level.
he's concerned the 6.0 diesel not as good as the 7.3.
It's not, that's where a factory backed extended warranty comes in, at a good price to clinch the deal. Excursions aren't exactly flying off the lot so the dealer should be able to get you a good deal on an additional warranty.
So Therese, you are a married woman trying to talk your husband into getting a fully loaded diesel 4X4 Excursion? You are my kinda woman. I love my wife but my gosh I would get rid of her for a woman who want to buy a diesel Excursion. Tell your husband that he has to get you the Excursion or you're going to leave him for a 45 year old balding fat man. :-) If that doesn't get you a new Excursion, nothing will.
You guys are not HELPING! I really do not want a used Ex - maybe in th e future - but wanted a brand new one. And at 42K for the EX EB 4*4 PSD with everything but chrome runners - it seemed like a good deal. I even like the color - estate green...
Read some stuff about the early 6.0 diesel and it defienetely was scary...not sure about the later reports....
Do NOT ever want an expedition, that thing drives horribly.
SO...y'all have given me reasons NOT to get the new one - I need ammo for GETTING the new one!!!!!!
I have 2003 EX 4x4 with the 6.0 PSD. To date, it has 56K on the clock and has performed flawlessy. I towed a 32' Travel Trailer until I sold it. Only place I could tell it was attached was climbing Thompson Pass into and out of Valdez, Alaska. Anyone that has towed there knows that is a long slow climb. Not a problem.
My only *gripe* has been the mileage which is not as good as was led to believeon when these were released. I have done as good as 20 on the open road and keeping it under 2000 rpm's (about 67 MPH). Last trip averaged around 17.5 MPG. But, I also remind myself this is an almost 8000 pound truck and that is why I have a car at home.
I cannot explain why I like my truck so much...it just makes me happy to drive....
I would not think twice about getting a new 05' 6.0 Excursion and I guarantee he wont regret it once he feels the power difference between the 7.3 and the 6.0. Tell him to go on a test drive and he'll be sold. My 6.0 Excursion has been thru more then probably any one on this board with over 30k in modifications about 3k of that went to getting more power out of the engine, I drive it like I stole it, I pulverize it, Ill race anyone with it even with 40" tires lol and probably accelerate faster then the average car will. I have 28k miles on it and the engine runs as good as new. Only been thru one bad EBP sensor in its life time, its been nothing but putting fuel additives and regular oil changes from there. I did go thru 1 tranny and 1 transfer case but that was completely my fault as I am running to much power, but that would not apply to you.
Pull the trigger now and enjoy the rig for a long time to come. I have thought about it myself as I have a 2002 Limited with 95K on the clock, but will have to wait as mine has many miles left and is paid for.....
Get it and enjoy.
Pat
Thanks all for the help. He agreed Called the dealer and have a depsoit on one in transit. I know they say the market is soft for these rigs - but did not have much luck finding what we wanted on a lot. The one in transit is it!!!
