66 engine/transmission options

just puchased a 66 swb with a 302 that is solid. Has the standard four speed transmission that i want to replace with something that will handle a stronger engine at some point in the future. Would to consider a 5 speed. Can anyone suggest some options?

thanks

That 4 speed will taking anything you attach to it. Pretty hard to blow up one of those, either a T-18 or New Process 435. You blow up the 5 speed ( aluminium case, remember) first! They make adapter kits to mate the 5 speeds. Nothing wrong with a 302 in your truck. You can use the 4 speed from a mustang of the same era or get creative with a set up from a late 80's Mustang. These use a cable setup for the clutch and the real late ones had a hydralic arraingement. It really depends on your creativity and how deep the pocket is.
