Slick Radiator Support

While digging through some catalogs the other day, I ran across my NPD catalog and the carry radiator supports for our Slicks. They're kind fo pricey at $300. Just thought I'd pass this on since I had seen some posts from people looking for one.

$300 is still a LOT cheaper than $500 at Carlisle.
But, the question is, what year supports are you talking about?
'61 - '64 are the same.
'65 is unique.
'66 is unique, and sometimes a '66 has a '65 support. Or vice versa. Maybe.

I saw those, too. I was going to call to see what year it really fits. Are the '65 and '66 ones so different that they can't work with a little modification? I'd gladly pay $300 for a new core support, assuming it fits. I wonder what the freight would be, too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I just installed a 66 support on my 65. The main differance I found was that my 65 had a differant radiator mount and the battery tray mounts to the radiator support. I had allready sent the old support to the scrap iron yard and had to make new brackets to mount the new 65 radiator I had bought. If I knew there was a differance I would have bought a 66 raditor and a 66 battery tray. It all worked out fine in the end everything is mounted and it looks good.

65 and 66 can be made to work, but putting in a 61-64 support in a twin-Ibeam truck is a recipe for a headache.

Keep in mind that 4x4 trucks used the older support through 66. The really issue is the change over to twin I suspension, which alters EVERYTHING inside of the fenders, hood, and grill.

My 65' came with what I know now to be a 64' core support, difference being the inner fender mounting holes and the radiator bracket gusset will interfere with a 65' inner fender, and mounting tab at the bottom for inner fender. I think making a 64' support fit a 65' is easier than a 65' to a 66' or vice'versa

I agree with jd & cd it's far easier to adapt a 65 & 66 to each other than a 61 to 64 to either a 65 or 66, unless it is a 4X4. It's possible to get a support core from a 1965 production model that was assembled in August of 64, which gives it 1964 production date, but the design is 65 style & completely different. Even the insulator "biscuts" & mounting bolts are different.
Aligning hood & front fender rear edge to door front edge margins is next to impossible
and the radiators aren't very similar either. Just my $.02 on this dilemma!

No reproduction supports are available for 61 to 66 trucks. If you know of one please share part number and phone. The supports are way to complicated and there is no market for what they would sell for. That is the truth from the core support hunter! No relation to the huricane hunter!
