Keyless entry

FTE Family....Does anyone else notice that you have to get very close to your truck in order to get it to unlock with the keyless entry? I have replaced the battery in the sending unit. Any fixes that you know of?

What do you consider close? I usually use mine between 15 and 50 feet with no problems.

50 feet.....No way. I would say 8 ft. I was able to open my 2003 F-150 4X4 supercrew FX4 from 150 feet ( guess). It was quite away while in a wal mart parking lot.

Do you have tinted windows etc??

There are "dead spots" within the recievers band. All keyless entry systems have them. Try walking around the truck at different angles, and see if there are only specific areas where it "won't open" at a certain distance.

Beyond that, it could be a faulty keyless entry module.

I have the same problem. Close for me, is standing right next to the door. It takes 4-5 presses to get all doors to open when it should only take 2.
My windows are tinted too.

I have a 2000 and finally just put an alarm on it so I could get away from the ford keyless system.

Yep same here. I could open my '01 WAYYYYY farther back than i can my new '06. It seems like the keyless entry is not working well for me at all. I can get it to unlock the front just fine but it takes me hitting the open key several times to get the rear doors open. My old truck you hit once for fronts and twice for rears like clockwork.

Speaking of keyless entry system... Where is the control box in the 2005's?

Thanks,
Chris

Put it under your chin when you unlock it... works from 3x as far away

The chin thing does work but why??? Soome have speculated that the antenna is directional and holding it vertically increases range. Some think that using your head as a booster antenna does it but holding it up over your head also works.

Anyway, 8 ft. max. tells me something isn't right. try the other remote that came with the truck. if this does the same thing, the receiver in the truck may be causing the trouble.

Some just wear out with use, not battery related.

I was looking for replacement keyless entry remotes not too long ago and I found a site that had them for $24.99 NEW for my F-150.

I had them delivered in less than a week and the programming instructions only took maybe 10 seconds?

Anyways, here's a link to the site:

Just click the Ford category, or type F-250 or F-350 in their search box.
