I spent $557 on gas from July 21-August 20 for one work truck and equipment. In the past year I have done everything I can to cut fuel cost. In the truck I am using half as much fuel as I was a year ago, but the money spent on it has barely dropped. Between the fuel we use and increased pricing on the stuff we buy, it is like the American worker is taking a pay cut every week.
so canda...the rest of the world pays...more...honestly...canada isnt at war with anybody...our fuel consumption is huge..due to the fact we are at war..so the demands from army and the common citizen is driving up the costs...think about that....dont give me a 2s BS answer think about it..
tonight at work one of the guys i work with said his wife called him before he came into work and she said gas was around $3.50 in pekin, illinois. thats only about 2 hours south of where im at. i dont understand why it goes so high, if there is a high demand for fuel then what good does raising the price do, it doesnt make more oil. ill still be driving my 79 f150 with a 460 as a daily driver, i wont let them win even though i might be complaining every mile i drive.
im not mainly talking about catrina...every couple of weeks we go up 20-30 cents anyways...almost 3 bucks here...we gotta find this source of our price dlilema and get rid of it...at all costs..
Good Luck getting rid of China. Gas price is driven by supply and demand. More demand= limited supply= higher prices. It isn't a conspiracy, its a fact of life. China is barely consuming the amount that the U.S consumes (~3 million barrels a day). China is building a city the size of Phildelphia every month, naturally their fuel demand is going to increase as their population becomes richer and eventually they will be consuming 3-4 times the amount of the U.S. So don't expect any relief, fuel prices will continue to grow until the world growth slows down.
The gas crunch of the 70's should have been a wake up call to develop alternative fuel sources, however, we just continue to produce gas guzzling vehicles by the millions every year.
just drove 500 miles to see my sister get married. paid 2.59on thursday (goodluck finding that now my dad said he saw 2.36 on his way home. wish I had seen that, I would have stopped and topped off before the prices go up even more from Katrina. I used to love driving my truck
Forget it. No point in worrying about it. There IS nothing you can do to stop it. You will pay the price and they can charge whatever they want. Be glad they are being so merciful as they are now. Do not look to this current administration to interfere. Fuel could go to 5.00 per gallon and the government would turn a blind eye to the harship it would impose.

Capitalism rewards greed.
I'm not quite sure what you expect our government to do about it.

I removed my statement which has been quoted in stone for me. It's a bit too political for this site. It's not so much really looking for government to control anything. I could see letting a few more refineries be built, since the fuel companies are siting lack of refining capacity as one of the major reasons for increased prices - no doubt government holds that trump card.
I'm one of the few people around here who actually DOSENT gripe about current fuel prices. There's no point to it. Like I said before - just be glad it's less than 5-6.00 per gallon. The oil companies could easily instate this price and people would have no choice other than to pay.
The rising fuel cost issue is'int really an issue of having either a pessimistic or optimistic outlook. It's just the reality of a free market - also one which is affected by a multitude of influences - not the least of which is PROFIT. It's not good - nor bad.
So people just gotta deal with it since it's beyond their control anyway - suck it up.
Honestly, the world will be out of petroleum within 20 - 30 years. What we're feeling now is not only the early affects of that, but also the effects of war in a region which largely supplies the world woth pertroleum. The solution is not to drive your 460 as much as possible. But the answer doesn't have to be a hybrid either. Sure hybrid Hydrogen cars will get a relative 100mpg. I'm already planning on swapping a deisel into my '79 F-100. It will run just as well, if jnot better then the old 302, and i can use BIO-Deisel. Think about it, it's not going to be as bad as it sounds, ever heard of deisel drag-racing? Those things can push out alot of HP.
not to bring a bad subject back up. but these no good oil companies are at it again.
i filled my tank sunday here in the north west corner of new jersey at 195.9 went past yesterday it's the same .needed to fill up today. over night it went to 225.9, for 87 octain. i don't know whats going on but 30 cents over night ,something is fishie in denmark. only it's here in the U.S of A.
just seems that we are in for some more of being ripped off. but for me its now come down to gas or food. i'm on total disabilty with a shot spine and right knee,i just don't have it for $80.00 fill ups again.
whats going on elsewere in this country?

Went up here again today to 2.19 for regular grade. It never dropped below 2 bucks a gallon as it did other places close to here. What gets me is the fact that the local stations raise the price on gasoline that's already in the tanks that was bought at a lower price.
Crooks!
$2.19 as a national average is actually lower than what it was pre-Katrina. It's not an issue of gouging, as the companies make very little off of each gallon pumped. (Your state makes more).
It's actually kind of simple, and I'm surprised no one mentioned anything...IT'S CHRISTMAS. The companies know that nearly every American will be on the road at one point, whether it be to visit family or go shopping...common sense says a small spike is gasoline will turn a major profit at the expense of all of these people moving about all of a sudden. It may not move a whole lot in the other direction, but I doubt very highly that this trend will continue after New Year's.
i don't know whats going on either dose the dealer. but it sure looks like it's going back to $3.00 and change, at the same rate as after the hericain. even more at 13:00 hours est i got a load of propane to heat with $2.37.9 a gal. times 265 gals. these companys are totally out of hand.
