seen this over on lucky 13. bunch of idiots, this is what ruins actual 4x4 trails, is people tearing up private and state property. http://www.katu.com/stories/77959.html i love that he looks down the barrel, should have gone off.
Its bit of a biased story. Sure there are some bozos up there, but the trails they were showing are wheeling trails that were developed from logging sites at least ten years ago. It should also be noted that the local pd DO know who those guys are but haven't issued any citations.
Seeing as thats my backyard stomping grounds, I'm just glad my truck wasn't caught on tape

I really don't see what "damage" this is causing. I mean, it's just a mud trail through some woods. It's not like trees are EVER gonna grow there. Now, if it is an actual operational fire road, that is another story. If it's just a right-of-way or old logging road, then who cares if people go out and make use of it for recreation and entertainment?
For driving on a logging road Did you somehow miss my post about this news story???
doesn't make a hill of beans off difference! think about it.... some soccer mom watching the news is not gonna think 'gee they were just on some logging road so who cares' she is gonna more than likely think ' those rednecks need to stay on their own property and stop trashing the earth worse than it is'
i know as well as you do that logging roads dont really matter cause they are mud trails to begin with and are fun to play in, but to the voting public (majority of who doesnt offroad in any way) offroaders get a bad rep for it! so YES i think they are stupid for what they are doing cause it only hurts US as a whole, that means it hurts you to Pro!

Let me clarify my previous statement. The damage to the signs and shooting and all that is no good for anyone, ever. But the wheeling and ATVing is just good old-fashioned fun. Was this private property or government land? If it's government land and "tree-huggers" are allowed to go out and walk or ride horses, then I think ANYONE should be able to go out there on ANY vehicle they choose. I am an avid mountain biker and I go through this same arguement with hikers and equestrians about my mountain bike causing "irrepairable damage" to the trails, yet I see horse hoof prints that literally move rocks and cause way more erosion damage than my 1/2" x 2 contact patch ever will! It all boils down to equal access to public land, and government owned land is paid for by the public, so if one group is allowed to use it, all groups should be allowed to use it, period! (Well, except for idiots who look down the barrel of their shotgun to see why it didn't go off!) I have had several of my favorite trails closed to bike access and had to watch as horses and hikers could use it all day long. I am about to the point where I will risk getting causght to TAKE my fair share of the access to public use land, fines be damned!!!
Looks like some of our county roads. A full days dozer work would fix that little puddle. 25000 bucks to repair it. Now who the criminal? Those county officals must be getting big graft money. Although the slobs should quit trashing the place, their bog holes may have many benifits. They slow the flow of runoff and become micro environments ie.. watering holes for forest critters and plant life.
Guys, crap like this hurts everybody that wants to use public land for ORV or ATV activities. The best thing to get public opinion on your side in situations like this to get a group together and go fix it and make sure the media knows you are gonna do it. Volunteer some of YOUR time and some of YOUR equipment to fixing the areas we use, especially if it's public acccess. That's the only way we keep our areas open.
Most of us have big, angry trucks that can move big, heavy equipment and I'm sure more than a few of us know how to operate a dozer, a backhoe, and a grader. A little labor now and then to maintain trails never hurt anybody.
Now here's a touchy subject . But yeah BFR250sd is right about getting out there and fixing the trail and such (hey on the farm we have enough equipment to build our own trials, if we ever had the time ), but when ever something like is done let the media and local news/area know about it and SHOW them what you are doing and say that you are doing this to help keep it open not only to offroad enthenusiats but everyone else that might possibility use it.
But yeah if it is a loggin trail opened to the offroaders everyone still needs to help take care of it and respect the surrounding areas (like shooting the signs for example), and this can be done by still putting the skinny pedal to the floor .
The other thing with this is hold your buddies accountable for that crap. If your bud's are the one shooting the signs, throwing th crap all over the place. STOP THEM! It only goes to keeping places open for us to use the toys we have. Peer pressure can be a mother. If you don't, you're only part of the problem, so don't complain when they close the trails down.
It doesn't bother me a bit to strap a chainsaw,an axe, some chains and straps on the back of the Grizzly and clean up a trail a little bit. Can I get to all of it, of course not, but can I help out a little. Sure can.
Find out who owns it and see if they will LET you clean it up. Get a group, schedule a "Trail Cleanup or Maintenance Day" and leave a good impression rather that just pissing people off.

I think I'd be hard pressed to say I've never taken my dirt bike on totally "legal" trails... we all know there are miles and miles of logging roads all over Oregon and Washington (and the United States).
The problem is... well the problem is people who would look down the barrel of a loaded shotgun to see just what's wrong ("oh, that's where my skittles went..."). People who go in with a pickup bed full of trash and dump it on a hillside, people who take stolen rigs and abandon them, people who don't respect citizens' property or job sites, and people who do some of the stuff caught on camera there. I guarantee if this was just a trail running through this stretch of land, there wouldn't be a problem.
Law enforcement seems to turn a HUGE blind eye to wheeling / dirtbike trails in my area. But still, one of my favorite places to ride (Sugarpine ridge, if anyone is familiar with this area) got shut down about a year ago because morons thought it was their personal dump, some people decided it was a good place to deposit stolen rigs, and people were making their OWN trails, regardless of if they stretched straight across someone's private property.
Obviously that story was reported by someone who really doesn't know what wheeling is all about, and the quote about "The riders love mud holes because they create a big splash effect when they go through" was kind of funny, but this wouldn't even get noticed if morons weren't destroying everything and acting like it was their land to take over and consume. There's some weird little territorial feeling some people get when they find a trail they like, and while you'd think the result of that would always be that they'd want to clean the area up and keep it nice, some people just want to dump their crap and shoot signs.
First off if you dont own the property stay off it unless you have permission from the owner.... thats what is PI$$in all the land owners off.....true they will more than likely tell you no but hay they PAY THE TAXES and its their right as the PROPERTY OWNER. If its not a designated ORV area owned by you or the state and its posted (or not) you shouldnt be there. I own a nice large piece of property here in Maine that I used to...... Key word being used to let people wheel on but they abused the privelage so now its been closed to the public. Sorry but it doesnt take but a couple of jerk offs to ruin it for everyone.
