this last weekend i went with some friends to the sand dunes to go dirt bike riding and at the end of the weekend i had to pull my friends truck and trailer out of the sand. my friends were watching and noticed that my front wheels were shaking right to left. i noticed there was a lot of shaking in the steering wheel also. my question is could this be due to bad balljoints or maybe the steering stabalizer? i have 63,000 mikes on the truck, is this a common thing? thanks guys.
kwik is probably right, but, the stock ball joints on the newer superduties are JUNK...! they are sealed so you can't grease them... i have to replace mine this month... there's another big bill on the card..! i guess that means no new mods for me this month..!

what kind of balljoints are you replacing the old ones with? (factory or serviceable ones?) how much do they cost? thanks for all the help.
i do not know the brand... but they are servicable... i.e. greaseable... i was told by my mechanic that if i keep the ones that he is putting in greased i will never have to replace them... i do know that the ones that were in my truck when i bought it were the oem type and had just been replaced... they didn't last long...
I had to replace my about two months ago. I used the greasable ones. I got mine from Napa I think I paid $250 for all four. I replaced them myself not that much of a problem just use a bigger hammer to get them out. The biggest problem I had was replacing the knuckle/axle seal. After I destroyed two of them I brought the shafts to a Ford mechanic to install the seals. The seals were $35 apiece and the only place to get them was the dealer.
thanks guys for all the input, i guess i know what i am going to do with my next paycheck.
do i just replace the 4 balljoints at the knuckles? or should i replace the balljoints in the steering too?
