I have a 94 7.3 IDI turbo, now the question , how do you check the valve that operates the turbo or the exhaust gate. my turbo doesnt seam to be operating right it goes thru the gears and rpms like a natural asperated engine.

what do you want the turbo to do? the actuator should have resistance if you try to manually move it. Take the intake hose off the turbo and see if the compressor is moving freely. If you have all that, your turbo is working.

that was my question, how much resistance should the actuator have I can hardly move mine manually. I haven't measured it but I would say it takes 15 to 20 lbs pressure to move it manually.

If its an ats turbo system, it takes 7 1/5 lbs psi to move the actuator. That is set at the factory. That is a lot of pressure. Buy and install a boost guage and you can watch it that way. You might just as well get a pyrometer while you're at it and dont let that get over 1050 F for any length of time.
