HELP! Engine is leaking all over!

I just replaced the fuel filter with the napa/wix silver filter, and then drove to a buddies. Everything was fine. I then replaced the stock airbox with the super duper wix, and it started fine. I reved it a couple of times, and it sounded like it was fluttering or something. I then noticed a huge cloud of smoke floating forwards by the cab. Tried it again, and i again saw tons of smoke. I quickly shut her off, replaced everything, and noticed that she was leaking what i believe to be coolant all over. My hands smell so much like diesel from the filter change, that it could be diesel as well. Looking at what drained out, it was fairly dark at first, and then cleaned up to almost clear water (maybe greenish, i.e. coolant). I believe it is leaking from between the engine and the xmission (manual). The clutch still works, so it isn't hydrolic fluid. It isn't oil, so it must not be the rear main seal. If it is coolant, is there a freeze plug or something at the rear?

Anyways,

It only has 80k, so it is still under warranty. It was used, so I don't have any maint. records other than my own. I haven't done the 60k service, but i have checked the fluid, oils, things of that nature (planning to go through and xchange the tranny and rear diff, as well as anything else not checked in the owners manual).

What should I do? I have it back to stock now, so I can tow it into a ford stealership or the like, but wanted some advice on what documentation i should have prior to going it, as well as what it might be.

Thanks for any replys in advance,
DKO

make sure the gasket from the fuel filter is seated correctly. The triangle point should be pointing up towards the lid. common mistake hope this helps

i got it in there correctly. Is there any chance it would purge all over itself? does anyone have a picture of where the water seperator is?

Did you close the water/fuel drain lever? If you didnt that will cause diesel to spew all over the place (yellow lever, located directly behind the fuel bowlon the passenger side)

Most probably these guys are right. You have a fuel leak from the purge valve area, or filter gasket. It drains down the V of the engine through a drian and comes out at the torque converter cover. I just fixed a leak to my purge valve assembly which I first thought to be oil, bc it washed all the black off of the engine to the TC cover. Lots of luck but not a big problem you can probably find if w/ the ignition in the on position.

I reseated the cover... no problem since. I have a manual, and the clutch started slipping a bit when i drove it. I probably contaminated the disk set by pressur washing the whole area. I probably pushed some diesel into the vent holes or somthing. Man that was scary... thought i hurt my baby....

Hey bhd,

What cover did you reseat? I am chasing what seems to be a massive oil leak as well, entire oil pan and transmission are covered in oil, so I'm curious.........
