used transmission problems

I just put a used c6 tranny in my 1977 Ford Pickup. But, it won't move. Won't even shift. Have fluid and good vacuum, but nothing.

Help!

Any ideas?

You said, "won't shift". Do you mean it just won't move when you put it into gear, or it won't let you move the shifter into gear?

I can physically shift the tranny, but it does not do anything. I can not feel it even try to shift. The linkage appears to be OK - - the shift level on the tranny moves and all seems to be fine.

Maybe it was recently rebuilt, and the parts on the inside of the shifter are missing.

Don't laugh, a reputable shop in CT did that to a friend's transmission. There was some kind of intermediate shaft between the lever and shaft that goes into the side of the tranny, and the rest of it - and they left it on the workbench!
