Just changed my Transfer Case Fluid in my 02 V-10 Excursion. I have some new qts left over and wanted to change my Power Steering Fluid as it takes the same Mercon ATF...Does anyone do this?? If so, Plz post on how to flush the system out.
sure it is pretty simple i used about 4 quarts to flush it. i took the return line off the unit and ran it into the drain pan . started the enigne let it idle and add fluid to the p/s tank and keep doing it until the fluid is clean looking then shut the engine off hook up the return line and add about 3/4 of a quart of fluid run it and check the level. it helps if you have someone else start and stop the truck it takes no more than 10mins to do. i do mine every 10k and takes me 5 mins to do. its very simple. i also added a filter in the return line. it was 1.90 at napa.
Thanks for the info...Just one more ?...How do you know which line is the return. I have 2 lines coming from the P/S tank itself. I have a large hose and then a smaller hose. One has a clamp type fitting around it, the other has a metal end that bolts into the P/S unit itself I think..
The return line will be the one with the clamp on it. It should be the larger of the 2 lines. The high pressure side will have a crimped on JIC type fitting on it.
